Nostalgia — you’re comparing the wrong things

Living in the past
or maybe bringing past to present
or just looking through nostalgia lenses
Today something clicked.
I’ve been wrong for a long time.
I used to think the past was better. People happier, life simpler. You see those old photos — cool outfits, old school sport suits, spring leggings, everyone looks fit. Like being in shape was just default.
But while eating dinner it hit me.
It’s all relative.
People had their own mess back then. In Poland especially — a lot of chaos. Alcohol, fights at home, crime. People stealing cars, radios, whatever. It wasn’t some peaceful simple life.
So this wasn’t even nostalgia. I was born in 2002. I never lived that.
It was just a filtered version. Best moments only. People remembering highlights. Media showing the good parts.

So I was comparing:
filtered past vs raw present
Of course the past “wins”.
And then I had this “aha”.
This is that “useful, not true” idea.
And there’s something here.
You can actually live nostalgia right now.
Not by going back — but by filtering the present the same way.
Because today is also full of crap:
- fake gurus selling “freedom”
- 100 opinions on diet, training, career, everything
- constant noise, distractions
But at the same time:
- you can access old books, proven ideas
- stuff that already worked 20–50 years ago
- all of it basically for free
So yeah, tech is double edged. Everyone says that.
But almost no one actually uses it like that.
So the idea is simple:
Ignore what sucks.
Keep what’s good.
Don’t use:
- social media like an addict
- AI instead of thinking
- internet gurus
Use:
- real knowledge
- simple training
- tools that actually help
Don’t admire nostalgia.
Create it.
